A Marriage of Flavors: The wetlands and cool temperatures of Northern Italy harbor ideal conditions for growing a menagerie of crops. Considered the heartland of Italy's agriculture, the fertile Po River Valley within the region is the most important to the economy of the country. Italy is Europe's largest producer of rice, the most famous of which is Arborio. Over the centuries, resourceful Italians developed a unique cooking technique combining rice with other ingredients common to the area, resulting in the classical Italian dish known as risotto. The key ingredient for authentic risotto is Arborio rice, a short-grained rice possessing a higher starch content than other varieties. This characteristic results in a cooked rice that is creamy and retains firmness even over a long cooking process. Alessi Frutti di Mare uses this imported Arborio rice and perfectly seasons it with onion, garlic, turmeric and a hint of saffron. We pair this with select seafood from the Port of Vigo, Spain, marrying the flavors into a delectable and unique dish that is sure to impress your family and friends. Enjoy our easy to prepare Risotto con Frutti di Mare.
