The new Instacart+ family account benefit allows 2 customers to share a single Instacart+ membership. The additional user included in a family account receives the same order savings benefits as the family account owner.

These benefits include, but aren’t limited to—

  • $0 delivery fees on orders of $35 or more (typically starting at $3.99 for non-Instacart+)
  • Reduced service fees.

If your additional member shares the same address as you, then you both can shop together using family carts. However, you can each shop individually if you prefer, as items in a personal cart don’t add to a family cart.

View your family account

You can view your family account through your Instacart account in 2 places.

View through the family account section—

  1. Log in to your Instacart account.
  2. Select the 3 horizontal lines in the upper left-hand corner.
  3. Select Family account.

View through the Instacart+ membership section—

  1. Log in to your Instacart account.
  2. Select the 3 horizontal lines in the upper left-hand corner.
  3. Select Your Instacart+ membership.
  4. Select Your family account.

Family account members

If you’re the family account owner, you can only add 1 other member to that account.

If you want to add a new member to your family account, you first have to remove the current member and then add a new one. You can remove and add up to 3 separate members within a 60 day period. 

The 60 day period starts when you add your first member to your family account. After 60 days, you can then remove and add a new member.

Add member to your family account

To add an additional member to your family account—

  1. Log in to your Instacart account.
  2. Select the 3 horizontal lines in the upper left-hand corner.
  3. Select Start a Family account.
  4. Enter the additional member’s contact information and email them, or copy the link and share it with them.

NOTE: You can only add 1 member to your family account at a time. If you want to add a different member to your family account, you first need to remove the current member and then add a new 1. 

Remove member from your family account

To remove an additional member from your family account—

  1. Log in to your Instacart account.
  2. Select the 3 horizontal lines in the upper left-hand corner.
  3. Select Your Family account.
  4. Select Family Account.
  5. Select the member.
  6. Select Remove member.

Accept a family account invitation

To accept and join a family account via invitation—

  1. Click or tap the invitation link.
  2. Log in to your Instacart account.
  3. Select Accept invite.

NOTE: If you no longer want to be a part of a family account, you have to ask the person that set up the family account to remove you.

Deactivate your family account

If you delete your family account, you won’t deactivate your Instacart account or Instacart+ membership. However, if you added an additional member to your family account, they no longer have access to the same order savings benefits as you, and you both lose access to any shared family carts.

To delete your family account—

  1. Log in to your Instacart account.
  2. Select the 3 horizontal lines in the upper left-hand corner.
  3. Select Your Family account.
  4. Select your name under Members.
  5. Select Deactivate family account.

NOTE: If you have items in an active family cart, complete your order or switch the cart to a personal cart before deactivating your family account. If you deactivate before completing the order or switching the cart, you lose all of the items in your cart.
